Above is the probably the most standard configuration that you will use with the Model 360 modem from Starband. This configuration relies on a computer to act as a "router / proxy" for the rest of the computers on the small network.

One thing to understand is that this computer, while it has to remain on for the other clients to access the Internet, does NOT have to be a dedicated computer. What I do is hook the 360 to the computer that;

    a) Is closest to the incoming cables
    b) The dominent user on the network (ie. the person who takes care of problems).

You can connect the 360 to its host computer via USB or RJ45. I personally prefer the RJ45 due to the problems encountered with the USB. RJ45 connections tend to be much more stable than USB connections.

Once you've made a connection to the 360 and are able to browse the Internet, you can start setting up your connection sharing method. The 360 installation / upgrade manual does a good job of taking you through those steps, so I'm not going to reinvent the wheel here.

NOTE: Windows 98SE and ME ICS are not compatible with the software that Starband uses to accelerate the tcp over the satellite.
