Setting up
the Linksys 8EFSR81
(8 Port Router)
by Chris Boedecker
When I first set this
up I had it set up with static ip's witch worked fine but that
requires allot more settings in all the client pc's. So I decided to
try using the DHCP in the linksys. It appears to work just fine on
all 4 of my pc's. This was originally setup on Win2K, however, the
principle should be the same on most Windows based O/S's.
Ok here is an actual screen
shot of my settings in Linksys. (well almost, I changed my IP) I
think it is pretty self explanatory.
TIP: The default gateway is
the number actually displayed on your 180. Your Ip is +1 of that
number. I had it backwards resulting in nothing working. Everything
else you can leave exactly as you see here. (I think)

In DHCP check to enable or if
your setting it up for the first time just leave it at it is that way
by default.

Here is a screen shot of my
TCPIP settings found by going into properties on your LAN. Pretty
simple huh....

I am using the ASAgent so my
browser settings are such. I have all pc's set up this way. The
one thing to remember is when setting up Internet Explorer (see video)
to point through the AS_Agent, make sure you put the local address
of 192.168.1.1 or whatever you use in the "exceptions"
field under advanced settings for IE.
And that's about it. I really
hope this can help some of you. I would hope I have spared maybe just
a few people the torment I have gone through. I cant say that their
is any boot up procedure. I heard someone say once you need to boot
the 180 first then the router because the 180 has a DHCP in it and it
will send the proper IP to the router. I have not seen this to be the
case but maybe I have just been lucky.
Good Luck..
