What exactly is MorphAround? MorphAround allows you to see and download files from the shared directory of other Morpheous users who you happen to be connected to and are using an odd Port other than port 1214 that Starband is currently throttling. How is this any different from what Morpheous already does? The difference is when using morpheous you search for a particular file or files by filename, artist etc and Morpheous will return the found result. With MorphAround, you can actually get a listing of every file in a particular users *shared directory and can download any one of those files. Will MorphAround help me get Morpheous Connected? No. MorphAround only helps once you've connected. If you are having problems with getting connected, this could be either a firewall problem or a Starband problem. I've heard from several users who were able to connect fine one week and not the next, and they hadn't made any changes to their system. This generally would indicate a problem on the Starband side of things. Can I download from users on Port 1214? Certianly, especially if you're connecting to them using something other than Starband, however, if your on a Starband unit, the speeds on 1214 will be throttled. On other ports you should see normal download speeds. Remember, your download speed will only be as fast as the slowest link. So you're attempting to download something from someone on a dial-up modem, don't expect much. I have heard from users who have access to cable modems and other high speed access and they say that it really screams when downloading from other high speed users even on port 1214. Using MorphAround The basic idea is to Start Morpheous and MorpAround and have both programs running at the same time. In the Morpheous preferences, change the number of simeltaneous downloads to some high number such as 50. Once you've connected to the Morpheous network, do a search for whatever it is you're interested in. Now just start double-clicking on the found result items to make a connection to the morpheous user. Now switch to the MorphAround program.
Click the "binocular" button to locate the established connections between your machine and the other Morpheous users. When you first start using MorphAround, you may see a ton of various IP's and ports listed. This is because MorphAround is showing you ALL the current connections that your machine has. Simply right click on the IP's and Ports you want to ignore and choose the appropriate menu selection. These ports and IP's will be filtered out of the list. The idea is to try and make a connection to another morpheous user on a none standard port (ie anything other than 1214). Once you see one of these none standard ports listed with an IP address, simply double click on it and you'll see a file listing of all the files in that users shared directory. There are two methods of viewing the shared directory. The first is by allowing MorphAround to call up Internet Explorer or whatever your default browser is. The second is to use MorphArounds internal viewer and downloading application. When using this to view and download you'll see screens similar to the following screens;
Now let's talk about the preferences screen in MorphAround. In the preferences screen you'll find three tabs;
General:
Here you can decide on whether you want to use the internal viewer or let your default browser display file listings. One thing to take into consideration is that with the Internal Viewer you can look at several IP's at once, while using IE You'll only be able to call up a single IP at a time. If you decide to use the built-in viewer, you'll want to specify the download diectory for the files you decide to download. You also have the option of having MorphAround automatically start Morpheous. This will save you a step or so. Simply point MorphAround to the Morpheous.exe file. Ignored Ports:
Whenever you select an item in the list of current connections, right click and choose "Add to ignore port list", this is where it goes. You can see here what all I currently have MorphAround set to ignore.
Ignore IP's:
this is where the ip's that you've chosen to ignore get listed. As you can see, I've chosen to ignore non-routable and auto-assigned Ip's. If you should decide that you don't want to filter a particular IP or Port out, simply highlight it and click the "x" button in the lower right corner and it will remove it from the ignore list.
*shared directory -The only files viewable are those that have been disignated by that individual user as "shared". In other words, these are the things he/she is willing to allow other users on the Morpheous network to download. You are not able to go outside this shared directory.
Click here to download it. Requirements: You must be a vaild Morpheous user and connected to the Morpheous network in order for this program to work. Note: you must be a member to download this software. You are not allowed to distribute this software.. |
