Official Support for XP

Starband is now "officially" supporting windows XP.  While the Starband software has pretty much worked since the 2.0.4.3 release a few months back, they are now providing phone support for the XP product line as well.

Their current statement on the on their web site has confused a few, so to clarify, the software that is ALREADY available via download from the Starband.net web site is what they are now saying is XP compatible.

The current releases, which have been out for a couple of months are;
2.0.1.16 and 2.0.1.17 and the number on the CD that holds this version is 7.05.

Starband uses a numbering scheme to determine where a particular version came from, so if you have the .17 version it came from the web site.  If you have the .16 version it came from the CD.  The main thing to understand is that, to my knowledge these both represent the same version of software.

If you want to get the latest CD, you can order it directly from Starband or you can download the updater.exe from the Starband.net and get a stripped down version of the CD.  What's missing from the stripped down version?  Mainly Internet Explorer and if you're doing this because of XP, you've already got the latest Internet Explorer.  Also, if you're using USB as your connection method instead of Ethernet, the drivers ARE on the CD while they are NOT on in the downloadable version.

Starband has also provided some additional FAQ's about their product and XP located here.

IMPORTANT:  If you originally tried the 2.0.1.16 or .17 versions and had to revert to a prior release to get XP to work then I would continue using that version until the next release.
