SigSampler
by Ken Knight

Update: Version 2.0 (NOW COMPATIBLE WITH 3.x and 4.x version of Mission Control)

  • Now remembers whether or not it was sampling when you last shut it down. This is great for rebooting the system, it will automatically start sampling when the system comes back up.
  • Variable sampler rate.  Now you can adjust the sample rate between 1 second and 1 minute.

So many times I've seen people post, "Every night at around xx time, my signal just drops out".  Or, "I'm not sure of the exact times, but everyday I go offline for about an hour or so".

In comes SigSampler.  What SigSampler does is take a sample of your signal once minute and store it in a database and then provide you with a graphical representation of what's happening with your signal over time... otherwise known as a line chart.

When you startup SigSampler, you'll notice you now have a new icon in your icontray that looks like this;  as you can see when you click the "Start Monitoring" button on the toolbar the icon becomes animated to let you know it's now monitoring.

You can also export your data to various formats including Excel, Word, HTML and many others.  You can read more about exporting by choosing help and then contents.  Once exported you could use the data to send to technical support with other information you may have gathered about your problem.

You can also empty the data from your database.  It might be a good idea to use windows explorer to copy the original data to a new filename just for safe keeping.

By default, the Time/Date labels are in a horizontal position, however, to get the best Time/Date resolution against the graph, click this button to rotate them to a vertical position.

Zooming and Panning

To zoom in on a selected area of the chart, simply hold down the left mouse button and drag down and to the right to create a box around the area in question.  Then let go of the mouse button.

To zoom out, reverse the process by holding down the left mouse button and drag up and to the left.  Then let go of the mouse button.

Once zoomed in you can move the chart to the left and right by holding down the right mouse button and draging the mouse to the left or right.  This is known as "Panning".
