ToggleMC
by Ken Knight

You're probably asking yourself, "Self, why would I need something like this?"

Answer:
Have you noticed that certain maintenance events that you try to perform manually or schedule won't run because of the Server360 program conflicting with them?  This corrects it.

The way this works is you add this to your "Scheduled Tasks" for your operating system.  For Win98 this is located in the Icontray next to your speaker icon.   For Win2k, this is located in the Control Panel.

The keys to making this work are three things:

  • The program takes parameters, so you'll need to add a /stop or /start after the "C:\program files\ToggleMC\togglemc.exe" statement.

  • Schedule a /stop event before the scheduled maintenance such as Defrag takes place.

  • Schedule a /start event after you think the maintenance event finishes.

For an example, let's say you've got Defrag schedule to happen every 3rd Monday of each month at 1:00am.  You would schedule ToggleMC to happen on this same date at 12:30am using the /stop parameter.  Then let's say you think it'll take about 3hrs for defrag to complete.  You'll schedule a /start event to happen at around 4:30am to start the mission control back up.

The help file has complete step by step instructions for both Win98 and Win2k.  WinME should be similar to Win98.
