Starband on XP Update 2/12/02 : Starband is now officially supporting the XP line of products. Click on a link below in the red box for more info. Update 11/16/01: Starband has released a new version of the Mission Control software version 2.1.0.17. This version was released on 11/15/01 and should be available via the "updater.exe" link below. This version is also compatible with XP which makes this work around no longer necessary if you can get the updater.exe downloaded. If, however, you are unable to get the full 2.1.0.17 updater.exe from the link below you can still use this method to get the 360 up and running then right click on your mission control and choose "Check for updates".
There are a couple of different ways that this can be done. I didn't really feel that it was right to recommend to everyone to download another companies product just to get the DNE when you have no intention of buying their product... bandwidth is money (trust me on this). There are also a few links posted in the forums to the elusive version of the Starband Mission Control that supports XP, however, these files are about 12megs in size and I don't know how long these folks will keep them up, so what I've done is created sort of an installer package for you to get the necessary files to get you up and running on XP. This will require you to download two files: this utility and the latest updater.exe from Starband (links at the bottom of the page) Download and install the sbuxp utility (pictured below) and then following the directions from this page to finish up..
Now after you run the small wizard, follow these steps. Click on the "Start" button in XP and select "Control Panel".
Now select Select "Network and Internet Connections"
Now click on "Network Connections"
Now right click on the network adapter that connects to the 360 and choose properties
Click on the "Install" button
Select "Service"
Select "Have disk"
Browse out to C:\program files\common files\Deterministic Networks\dne
Select the "dnepro" file and click ok which should take you back to the screen below.
Now click ok one more time to install the service
At this point you should see the "Deterministic Network Enhancer" listed. You will now need to install the latest "updater.exe" from Starband. The updater is located here the file is about 12megs so it may take a while. Click here to download it. Note: you must be a member to download this software. You are not allowed to distribute this software. |
DISCLAIMER: Use this program at your own risk, just like the Main window states. It was developed on Win2k Pro. And tested on XP. Again, you use this program at your own risk.
